Meet the author

Tatanisha Powell

Author, grandmother, retired U.S. Army veteran, and advocate for children whose strengths are too often overlooked.

Tatanisha created Veluneli Books from a deeply personal belief: stories can help children understand one another with greater love, patience, and possibility. Inspired by her grandson Zion and grounded in real family experiences, her books portray autistic children as whole children—with humor, interests, strengths, needs, and agency.

A Beacon, New York native and Beacon High School graduate, Tatanisha brings warmth, lived experience, and a spirit of service to every story and reading.
